Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - The Detroit Red Wings placed forward Henrik Zetterberg on long-term injured reserve Wednesday.

The move comes more than a week after the club announced that he was expected to miss at least two weeks of action due to a herniated disc in his back.

At the time he was stricken, the veteran Swede led the Red Wings with 30 points through 28 games. His 11 goals are second on the club, while his 19 assists lead the team.

Zetterberg will not be eligible to return until Dec. 28.
