Red Sox third baseman Kevin Youkilis went back to Boston for an MRI on his sore left hip and wasn't available for Friday night's game against Tampa Bay.

Youkilis, who spent time on the disabled list in August with a low back strain, is batting .261 with 17 homers and 80 RBI in 117 games this year. He is just 5-for-27 at the plate since coming off the DL.

Starting pitcher John Lackey departed Friday night's game after three innings due to a left calf contusion. He was hit by a batted ball from John Jaso to cap the third inning.
