New York, NY – New York Mets third baseman David Wright received a jolt in the latest polls and moved a step closer to starting the 2013 All-Star Game in front of the New York faithful.
Wright is now in position to man the hot corner for the Midsummer Classic at Citi Field, as he overtook San Francisco's Pablo Sandoval by upping his ballot total to 2,917,819 votes.
Sandoval, the 2012 World Series MVP, still remains well within striking distance, however, with a total of 2,788,988 votes.
St. Louis catcher Yadier Molina has eked past San Francisco's Buster Posey as the top backstop and leading vote getter in the National League. Molina has registered 3,596,858 tallies, while the reigning NL MVP Posey nears close with 3,506,402.
Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki still owns the widest margin from his runner up. Tulowitzki has garnered 3,104,285 votes, while the Giants' Brandon Crawford remains far behind with 1,757,255.
A pair of Cincinnati Reds, first baseman Joey Votto (2,677,813) and second baseman Brandon Phillips (2,597,742) are still ahead in the balloting at those two positions, with Arizona's Paul Goldschmidt (2,270,886) and San Francisco's Marco Scutaro (2,272,484) trailing behind.
Cardinals outfielder Carlos Beltran remains the top NL outfield selection by the fans, garnering 3,473,030 votes. Atlanta's Justin Upton follows with 2,453,531 votes and Nationals' Bryce Harper has received 2,363,965 tallies.
Colorado's Carlos Gonzalez trails Harper by more than 300,000 votes for the final outfield position.
The 84th All-Star Game will be played at Citi Field in New York on Tuesday, July 16. Both All-Star teams will be unveiled on Sunday, July 6.
