Colorado Springs, CO – U.S. wrestler Stephany Lee tested positive for a prohibited substance and has been banned for one year, meaning she won't be going to the Olympics this summer.
The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency announced that the 27-year-old Lee positive for tetrahydrocannabinol acid, a marijuana metabolite. The positive test came from a sample collected on April 21 at the U.S. Olympic trials in Iowa City.
"I apologize to USA Wrestling, my teammates, my coaches and everyone who supported me for my mistake. I will continue to train, and hope to be able to represent my country at the 2016 Olympic Games," Lee said.
This is the second doping violation for Lee, who previously tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol acid in 2009.
Because of the ban, Ali Bernard, who lost to Lee in the final of the 72 kg weight class, is expected to head to the Olympics for a second straight time.
