Zephyrhills, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The attorney for the woman who accused Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston of sexual assault wants the Florida attorney general to conduct an investigation into the matter.
Patricia Carroll said Friday there were discrepancies in the medical reports her client's family received and the medical reports in the package of documents released to the media last week when State Attorney Willie Meggs said no charges would be filed against Winston.
"We perceive that as a problem that warrants further investigation," said Carroll in a news conference Friday. "There is no other choice than to call upon the attorney general of the state of Florida to conduct an independent investigation into this case and the Tallahassee Police Department."
The accuser's family was critical of the police department's handling of the initial investigation. The alleged sexual assault took place in a Tallahassee apartment in December of 2012, but prosecutors weren't made aware of the police investigation for 11 months.
Meggs, in his news conference last week, said police could have handled the investigation a little differently.
Carroll, on Friday, said the accuser is not yet considering a civil lawsuit.
Winston has led the Seminoles to the BCS National Championship Game and is the leading candidate for the Heisman Trophy.
