Chicago White Sox right-hander Jake Peavy was named American League Pitcher of the Month for April after going 3-1 with a 1.67 earned run average in five starts.

Peavy, 30, struck out 33 batters and issued just five walks in 37 2/3 innings for Chicago. He threw two complete games, including a shutout, and captured the award for the first time.

Other pitchers receiving votes were Seattle's Felix Hernandez, Texas' Yu Darvish and Colby Lewis, the Angels' Jered Weaver, Cleveland's Derek Lowe, Baltimore's Jason Hammel and Jim Johnson and Tampa Bay's James Shields and Fernando Rodney.
