CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — Matt Wessinger homered twice and drove in four runs Saturday as St. John's beat Virginia Commonwealth 8-6 in a Charlottesville Region elimination game.

The Red Storm (35-25-1) hit three consecutive home runs in the bottom of the first against Rams starter Blake Hauser, who lasted two innings and allowed four home runs and five runs.

The Rams (40-20) got a two-run home run from Brent Mikionis in the first and an RBI grounder by Taylor Perkins in the second, but didn't score again until the ninth inning.

St. John's starter Sean Hagan (5-1) went five innings, allowing five hits and three runs. Kevin Kilpatrick worked 3 1-3 innings and Daniel Burawa allowed a two-run single to John Van Meter and an RBI single to Mikionis in the ninth before getting the final out.
