Webb fires 63 to win her second Founders Cup

Phoenix, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Karrie Webb birdied six of the last eight holes on Sunday as she rallied to win the JTBC Founders Cup.

Webb, who also won this crown in 2011, closed with a 9-under 63 to finish at 19-under-par 269. This was her second win of the year, and 41st of her career on the LPGA Tour.

"I stood on 10 tee and thought 20-under would have a chance. I thought at 19- under I'd definitely be in a playoff, if anything, not standing here as a winner," Webb stated. "I wasn't nervous, it was out of my control really. My job was done, and I just had to wait and see."

Last year's winner Stacy Lewis fired a 6-under 66 to gain a share of second at minus-18. She ended alongside Amy Yang (67), Azahara Munoz (67), Mirim Lee (69) and Lydia Ko (70). Lee led after the first two rounds, while Ko was atop the leaderboard entering the final round at Wildfire Golf Club.

Pornanong Phatlum (66), Jessica Korda (70) and So Yeon Ryu (68) tied for seventh place at 17-under-par 271.

Webb started the day six strokes behind Ko, and she played 10 groups ahead of the leader. Webb birdied the second, then wrapped birdies at five and seven around a bogey on the sixth.

The Australian rolled in a birdie try on No. 9 to make the turn at 13-under, where she was still six back.

Lee birdied the second and third to join Ko at 17-under as Ko birdied the second. Lee dropped a shot at the fourth and didn't get closer that two the rest of the way.

Ko followed her birdied on the second with birdies at three and four as she jumped three clear of Lee. Ko moved to 20-under with a birdie at the fifth and her advantage to four.

The teenager faltered to bogeys on the ninth and 11th to slip into a share of the lead at 18-under. Ko was joined there by Webb, who was on fire around the turn.

Webb birdied the 11th, then kicked off a run of four straight birdies at the 13th. That burst gave her a share of the lead with Ko.

After a par on 17, Webb made a 20-footer for birdie at the last to end at 19- under. Ko was finishing the 10th hole as Webb headed to get a bite to eat, then to the range in case someone caught her and forced a playoff.

Coming down the stretch, several players had a chance to tie Webb. Lewis birdied the last two to end one back. Munoz, Yang and Lee all had birdie putts on the 18th green to try to force a playoff, but none of them converted.

That left it to Ko, who was one back after a birdie on 15. She parred 16, then narrowly missed a 9-foot birdie putt on the 17th. Ko, needing to birdie the last, left her birdie effort within a foot of the hole to give Webb the win.

"I had a really good start. Making four birdies on the first five holes was really good, and I struggled in the holes after that, but you know, I tried to get myself together, and I made some bogeys in the wrong time, which wasn't ideal, but I tried my best until the last," Ko said.

NOTES: Webb earned $225,000 for the win ... With the victory, Webb tied Babe Zaharias for 10th on the LPGA Tour all-time wins list ... This is the 10th time Webb has won at least two events in one season on the LPGA Tour ... The tour heads to California next week for the Kia Classic, where Beatriz Recari birdied the second playoff hole last year to beat I.K. Kim.
