New Orleans, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Hudson Swafford fired a 6-under 66 Friday to move into a tie for the lead with the second round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans suspended for the day due to inclement weather.
Swafford ended 36 holes at 11-under-par 133. He was joined in the lead by first-round co-leader Boo Weekley, who was 3-under par through 15 holes of round two.
Swafford is looking for his first PGA Tour win, while Weekley is a three-time winner on tour.
With strong storms bearing down on the TPC Louisiana, play was called for the day. The first round was completed earlier Friday after being stopped by darkness on Thursday. There was a 78-minute weather delay on Thursday that pushed play back.
The second round will resume at 9 a.m. ET on Saturday.
Brendon de Jonge (70) and Cameron Tringale (65) are tied at minus-10. De Jonge shared the first-round lead with Weekley. Jerry Kelly (17 holes), Daniel Berger (15) and Jason Day (14) also shared third place.
Chad Campbell posted a 4-under 68 to move into a tie for eighth place at 9- under-par 135. He was joined there by five other players, who were all on the course when the horns blew to stop play.
Swafford dropped his approach at the first six feet from the hole and rolled that in for an opening birdie. After a pair of pars, he birdied the fourth from four feet out.
The 27-year-old climbed to 8-under thanks to another short birdie effort at the par-3 seventh. He ran off three pars in a row around the turn.
Swafford played his third at the par-5 11th to four feet. He tapped that in for birdie. Swafford parred three straight from the 12th, then converted a birdie effort at the 15th from nine feet out.
He made it two in a row as he converted his sixth birdie of the day at the 16th. Swafford closed his round with a pair of pars.
"It was really solid. The wind was kind of down early, and I hit some nice quality golf shots and just stayed patient. The wind then started picking up and we actually got put on the clock on 15," Swafford stated. "Maybe a couple of out-of-rhythm shots coming in on 16 the tee ball and 17 the tee shot wasn't that good, but all in all a really solid day."
Weekley started with a trio of pars from the 10th. He rolled in a 13-footer for birdie at the par-4 13th. Weekley parred six consecutive holes from the 14th to remain at minus-9.
The three-time PGA Tour winner got up and down for birdie at the par-5 second. Weekley drained a 20-foot birdie chance at the third to join Swafford in the lead. Weekley parred the following three holes before play was called for the day.
NOTES: Swafford is bogey-free through 36 holes ... No player from the afternoon wave completed their second round ... Fredrik Jacobson's streak of 542 holes without a 3-putt ended Friday, when he 3-putted the 10th ... Marc Leishman had 10 birdies through 17 holes ... Defending champion Seung-yul Noh withdrew after eight holes of round two due to a back injury.
