Vitesse opened its Eredivisie campaign in strong fashion on Sunday by securing a 3-1 home victory against Heracles.

Goals from Kelvin Leerdam and Marcus Pedersen in the opening half hour put Vitesse in control, while Renato Ibarra added a third goal eight minutes from time.

Heracles was able to pull one back in the 90th minute through Matthew Amoah, but it was little consolation on a day when the visitors were well beaten.

Go Ahead Eagles claimed a point in its first game back in the Eredivisie as Xander Houtkoop's 46th-minute goal canceled out a first-half strike from Utrecht's Davy Bulthuis in a 1-1 draw.

Feyenoord finished last season in third place in the league table, but the Rotterdam outfit sustained a 2-1 defeat at Zwolle on Sunday to open the campaign as Guyon Fernandez scored the winning goal in stoppage time, while Cambuur and NAC played out a 0-0 stalemate in Sunday's other match.
