Villarreal won for just the third time on the road in La Liga this season, 3-2 over Sporting Gijon in a relegation rumble at the El Molinon on Tuesday.

Mario Gaspar Perez, Marcos Senna and Hernan Perez scored for Villarreal, which moved seven points clear of Gijon - which is in the relegation zone in 18th. A loss by Real Zaragoza on Wednesday against Levante would secure survival for the Yellow Submarines.

The Yellow Submarines took the lead early through Gaspar Perez, and Senna was on target from the penalty spot before half to give his side a 2-1 cushion at the end of 45 minutes.

Hernan Perez added a third goal 11 minutes into the second half, and Gijon was only able to pull one goal back through Alejandro Galvez in the 85th.

Gijon had won three of its last four games to make a run at safety, but can no longer catch Villarreal. Gijon could have its fate sealed Wednesday, if Rayo Vallecano picks up even a point at Mallorca.

Granada 2, Espanyol 1

Granada, Spain - Odion Ighalo scored twice in the first half and Granada edged Espanyol, 2-1, on Tuesday at the Los Carmenes to inch closer to survival in La Liga.

Ighalo scored in the 29th and 35 minutes, helping Granada win for the second time in its last three. With the win and Sporting Gijon's defeat to Villarreal on Tuesday, Granada can finish no lower than 18th.

Should Real Zaragoza fail to beat Levante on Wednesday, Granada would seal its place in the league for next season.

Espanyol lost for the third time in its last four, but sits safely in 12th as the season winds down.

Getafe 1, Racing 1

Getafe, Spain - Papa Diop responded to a Miku goal as relegated Racing earned a point at Getafe with a 1-1 draw at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez on Tuesday in La Liga.

With its fate previously sealed, Diop scored in the 65th minute - six minutes after Miku converted a penalty kick for his 12th goal this season - as Racing secured just its 27th point through 36 games.

Racing, winless in 18 straight fixtures dating back to mid-January, secured a last-place finish. Getafe has just one win in its last five, but is safe in 11th place.
