Paris, France – Venus Williams pulled out of next week's WTA event in Paris and an upcoming Fed Cup quarterfinal against Italy because of a back injury.
The 26th-ranked Williams lost to French Open champion Maria Sharapova in straight sets in the third round at the Australian Open last week.
The 32-year-old Williams is a former world No. 1 and seven-time Grand Slam singles champion.
