DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – Venus Williams dominated eighth-seeded Caroline Wozniacki 6-3, 6-2 to reach the final of the Dubai Championships on Friday.
Williams, who lost the Auckland final to Ana Ivanovic last month, lost an early 2-0 lead in the first set, but from 2-2 always led in the 81-minute match.
The 44th-ranked Williams, the Dubai champion in 2009 and 2010, failed to serve out the first set at 5-2, surrendering that eighth game at love.
Williams broke back immediately, converting a second set point.
She broke the Dane's serve at 15-40 with a textbook backhand volley for 2-0 in the second set. Another break in the eighth game improved her record against Wozniacki to 5-0.
Top-ranked Serena Williams faced 26th-ranked Alize Cornet of France in the other semifinal.
If Serena wins, the Williams sisters will face each other in a first final since the 2009 WTA Championships. Serena holds a 14-10 winning record over Venus.
