USA's Franklin sets swimming world record

United States swimmer Missy Franklin set a world record Saturday during the Berlin World Cup event.

Franklin, just 16 years old, swam a time of 2:00.03 in the 200-meter backstroke to set the short-course world record and win the event. Japan's Shiho Sakai had previously held the record after swimming a 2:00.18 during the Berlin meet in November 2009.

Back in July at the swimming world championships, Franklin won three gold medals, including one in the 200-meter backstroke. She was also part of the United States' winning teams for the 800-meter freestyle and 400-meter medley relays.
