New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - D.C. United's Bill Hamid captured the 2014 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year award on Wednesday after he played a huge role in United's dramatic turnaround from last season.
After finishing with the worst record in MLS last term, United ended the regular season on top of the Eastern Conference before going out in the conference semifinal round of the playoffs against Red Bull New York.
In his fifth season with United, Hamid was a big part of that success as he set career highs in clean sheets (10) and saves (110) while posting the second-best goals against average in the league at 1.13.
Hamid ended the season second in MLS in clean sheets and his performances this season helped him earn his second cap for the United States national team on Nov. 18 against Ireland.
Real Salt Lake netminder Nick Rimando finished second to Hamid, with Steve Clark of the Columbus Crew a distant third.
