UCLA linebacker Patrick Larimore informed his teammates Sunday night that he was retiring due to repeated concussions.

"After talking with the doctors and talking it over with his family, he felt like for his future health, long-term health, that he should medically retire," UCLA coach Jim Mora said. "It's obviously a very tough decision for Patrick, a very tough decision for this team.

"More importantly, Patrick was mature in his decision. He gave it a lot of thought. He didn't get captured in the moment. We support him."

Larimore was team captain and MVP of the defense last year. In 13 starts, he had a team-leading 81 tackles, including one sack. He also had an interception that he returned for a touchdown. The redshirt senior also recovered a fumble.
