Twins turn to Pelfrey in hopes of sweep of White Sox

(SportsNetwork.com) - The red-hot Mike Pelfrey will try to pitch the Minnesota Twins to a four-game sweep of the visiting Chicago White Sox on Sunday afternoon.

Pelfrey has allowed just two earned runs over his last three starts and picked up his second victory in a row on Tuesday versus Detroit, holding the Tigers to a pair of runs -- one run -- on three hits and two walks in seven innings. He also struck out a season-high seven to move to 2-0 with a 2.25 earned run average in four starts this year.

The 31-year-old righty got a no-decision at the White Sox on April 11, giving up four runs over five frames. That left him winless in his career in this matchup at 0-3 with a 6.75 ERA in six games.

Chicago's John Danks aims for a second victory of the season today and picked up his first win last time out.

Danks logged a 5-3 win over Kansas City on Sunday, scattering three runs on five hits and a walk over six innings. He also struck out a season-high eight after having fanned just eight over his first three outings.

The 30-year-old southpaw is 7-13 lifetime versus the Twins with a 5.59 ERA.

The Twins continued to roll in this set with Saturday's 5-3 win as Torii Hunter smacked a two-run homer among his three hits and Trevor Plouffe added a solo shot. Danny Santana finished with three hits in Minnesota's fourth victory in five games.

Ricky Nolasco, activated from the disabled list prior to the game after missing time with right elbow inflammation, lasted five innings and was charged with three runs on eight hits while walking one and striking out four.

The Twins lost two of three versus the White Sox earlier this season, but can record their first four-game sweep over Chicago since June 19-22 of last year in Minnesota.

J.B. Shuck, Avisail Garcia and Micah Johnson each drove in a run for the White Sox, who have lost their last four.

"We had some opportunities, we're just not cashing in on them right now. Eventually that's going to happen for us," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said.

Hector Noesi allowed five runs on five hits with a pair of walks and strikeouts in 4 1/3 frames to take the loss.
