Bryce Scott and Dan Trist converted back-to-back three-point plays inside the final 2 minutes as Lafayette blunted an American rally to upend the league-leading Eagles 74-62 Saturday.

Trist scored 13 of his 19 points in second half where the Leopards (8-17, 4-10 Patriot League) pulled away. He hit 8 of 10 from the field and grabbed 10 boards. Seth Hinrichs added 18 points as Lafayette shot a season-high 60 percent.

American (15-10, 11-3) lost its third Patriot game in two weeks after a 10-0 start, falling from a first-place tie with Boston University.

The Eagles led by 12 just before halftime when the Leopards Joey Ptasinski (10 points) cut that with a 3-pointer. Hinrichs opened the second half with a 3-pointer, grabbed a defensive board that led to a Zach Rufer basket and then dished to Trist for a layup as Lafayette used a 7-0 run to take the lead.
