Detroit Tigers center fielder Austin Jackson has been named American League Player of the Week for the period ending September 4.

In seven games last week, Jackson batted .529 with three doubles, three triples, two home runs, five RBI and 13 runs scored.

The 24-year-old led the majors in batting average, hits, triples, runs scored and total bases (33). He also finished tops in the American League in slugging percentage (.971) and on-base percentage (.543).

Other notable performances included Angels shortstop Erick Aybar; Royals rookie first baseman Eric Hosmer; and Oakland Athletics right-handed pitcher Brandon McCarthy.
