San Francisco, CA – Entering the final round on Sunday at the 112th U.S. Open Championship, people wondered if this would finally be the week Tiger Woods came from behind to win a major.
After three holes, Woods was heading in the wrong direction, and it didn't get much better as the front nine went along.
The three-time champion bogeyed each of the first two holes at The Olympic Club. Woods then made a mess of the third en route to a double-bogey.
That dropped him to 8-over par for the championship. If that wasn't enough, Woods went on to bogey Nos. 5 and 6. He bogeyed the sixth all four days and played the opening six holes in 9-over par for the four rounds.
Woods did manage to get one stroke back with a birdie on the par-3 eighth. Despite that bogey, he was 10 strokes behind Jim Furyk, who was even-par after three holes to remain at 1-under for the championship.
Since 1997, Woods' worst finishes at the U.S. Open were in 2003 and 2006. In '03, he tied for 20th behind Furyk and in '06 he missed the cut for the first time in his career at this championship.
