Legendary Tennessee women's basketball coach Pat Summitt reportedly has been diagnosed with an early onset of dementia.

Summitt told the Knoxville News-Sentinel of her condition on Monday and planned to make a public announcement Tuesday. The paper said she wanted to wait until after speaking with her players on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the News-Sentinel, Summitt visited the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota for a series of tests after concerns of erratic behavior. She was told that she has a progressive condition of an Alzheimer's type of dementia.

The paper said the 59-year-old Summitt intends to coach again this coming season, which would be her 38th at the school. She has 1,071 career victories and has led the Lady Vols to eight national championships.
