Suarez named PFA Player of the Year

Liverpool, England (SportsNetwork.com) - Liverpool forward Luis Suarez was named the 2013-14 Professional Footballers' Association Player of the Year on Monday.

The 27-year-old is almost assured of winning the Premier League Golden Boot with 30 goals in 31 league matches this season, while he has also chipped in 12 assists for a Liverpool side that has scored a staggering 96 goals in 36 matches.

Only one year ago Suarez received a 10-match ban for biting the arm of Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic, with the suspension carrying over into the first four games of this season.

However, Suarez has been all business this term, helping guide Liverpool to the top of the league with two games to play and giving the club a chance to win its first league title since the 1989-90 season.

The Uruguay international won the award over Liverpool teammates Steven Gerrard and Daniel Sturridge, Southampton's Adam Lallana, Eden Hazard of Chelsea and Manchester City's Yaya Toure.

Hazard, 23, captured the PFA Young Player of the Year award with 13 goals and seven assists for a Chelsea side that resides in second place in the league table.
