Stosur fights back to win Strasbourg title

Strasbourg, France ( - Former U.S. Open champion Samantha Stosur won her first title of the year with a three-set victory over Kristina Mladenovic of France in Saturday's final at the Strasbourg International.

The third-seeded Aussie Stosur rallied past Mladenovic 3-6, 6-2, 6-3. The 31- year-old Stosur is now 3-0 lifetime against the 5-foot-11 Mladenovic.

Stosur improved to 7-14 in her career WTA finals, with her last title coming in Osaka last year. She was a surprise U.S. Open champ in 2011.

"It was a last minute decision to come here, so to play as well as I did and walk away with the title, it's exciting, and especially going into a Grand Slam. It's been a really good week for me in Strasbourg," said Stosur.

The 22-year-old Mladenovic played in her first-ever WTA final.

The French Open starts Sunday. Stosur will face American Madison Brengle in the first round, while Mladenovic squares off against Eugenie Bouchard.
