Ryan Stevenson netted a pair of first- half goals as Hearts held off Dundee United, 2-1, at Tynecastle Stadium on Sunday.

Stevenson's first goal arrived after 15 minutes when he took a pass from John Sutton and fired a shot beyond the reach of goalkeeper Radoslaw Cierzniak.

Dylan McGowan helped create the second goal in the 31st minute when he was fouled inside the penalty area by United's Barry Douglas, allowing Stevenson to tally his second goal of the match from the spot.

The visitors pulled a goal back in the 57th minute through Keith Watson, but Hearts held out to claim all three points and move one point ahead of United in the middle of the table.

Sunday's other contest ended in a 1-1 draw between Kilmarnock and Hibernian as the two sides traded first-half goals.

Paul Heffernan's goal after six minutes had Kilmarnock ahead early, but Hibernian answered through Eoin Doyle, who tallied his third goal in two games by turning home a cross from Leigh Griffiths at the back post.
