Steve Stricker likely to miss Match Play as brother awaits liver transplant
LOS ANGELES – Steve Stricker is likely to miss the Match Play Championship next week because his brother is waiting for a liver transplant.
Stricker said Tuesday that 50-year-old Scott Stricker has been in intensive care for the past three weeks. The family thought there was a liver available over the weekend, but the timing did not work out.
Stricker says his brother is "walking a tightrope" and needs the transplant soon.
Stricker was scheduled to make his 2014 debut next week in Arizona at the Match Play Championship, where he is a past champion. He says he hasn't officially withdrawn, but that it's a long shot for him to compete.
If he doesn't play, that would mean four of the top 12 players in the world ranking are not in the field.
