PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Steelers are doubling down on the no huddle.
Offensive coordinator Todd Haley has expanded the number of 'no huddle' packages in his playbook after the Steelers used it effectively in the second half of the 2013 season.
Pittsburgh averaged more than 28 points over the final seven weeks after Haley gave quarterback Ben Roethlisberger more freedom to work out of the no huddle. The Steelers averaged just 20 points a game over the first nine weeks while stumbling to a 3-6 start.
Roethlisberger said Wednesday that Haley has pushed the no huddle "about as far as it can go" during organized team activities and minicamp. That will give the offense a chance to fine-tune things when training camp begins in July.
