Stars' Peverley 'resting comfortably'

Dallas, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Dallas Stars forward Rich Peverley remained hospitalized Tuesday and is "resting comfortably" after collapsing from a cardiac event he suffered during the first period of Monday's game against Columbus.

The Stars issued an update on Peverley's condition Tuesday and said he is undergoing more tests in an attempt to discover what triggered Monday's episode.

"The focus of all the testing and monitoring is being dedicated to finding the cause of the event and a long-term solution to rectify the problem," Stars general manager Jim Nill said in a statement.

"Rich has been communicating with his teammates and friends. He is extremely grateful for all of the prayers and support that he's received from fans and friends alike."

The Stars said a press conference in conjunction with doctors from UT Southwestern will be held Wednesday.

Peverley, who had a procedure performed during the preseason to correct an irregular heartbeat, collapsed shortly after completing a shift as players from both teams frantically called for medical personnel to assist the nine- year veteran.

The incident occurred with 13:37 remaining in the first period and the Blue Jackets holding a 1-0 lead.

Peverley was transported to the hospital after being attended to for several minutes, and the Stars later issued a statement saying that he was conscious and his condition was not life-threatening.

Stars coach Lindy Ruff and Dr. Gil Salazar both said Monday night that once Peverley regained consciousness, he asked to go back into the game, which was suspended and later postponed.

The 31-year-old was held out of the Stars' game at Columbus last Tuesday following a recurrence of his heart condition, but returned two days later and recorded two assists in Dallas' 6-1 win over Vancouver.

Peverley, acquired from the Boston Bruins in July as part of the trade that also sent Stars leading scorer Tyler Seguin to Dallas, has seven goals and 23 assists this season.
