ORLANDO, Fla. – Spencer Levin had built his lead to six shots halfway through his round at Bay Hill. By the time he was done, he was happy just to be in front.
Levin ended his round Friday with a 20-foot birdie putt to stop his slide. He shot a 2-under 70 and has a two-shot lead over Steve Marino and Charles Howell III among the early starters in the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Howell shot a tournament-best 65 and Marino had a 67.
Tiger Woods also got back into the game, finishing a solid round with a 20-foot birdie putt for a 68. Woods, a six-time winner at Bay Hill, was five shots behind Levin.
The forecast was for relatively calm conditions in the afternoon when Phil Mickelson and Rickie Fowler were hoping to pick up ground on the leaders.
