Reading announced Tuesday that Nicky Shorey has signed with the club following his release from West Bromwich, putting pen to paper on a one-year deal with the option of a second year.

Shorey enjoyed a seven-year spell with the Royals from 2001 to 2008, logging 286 appearances over that stretch. The 31-year-old was voted by Reading's fans as the best left-back in club history.

"I would like to welcome Nicky back to Reading Football Club, he was an outstanding player here once before and we are looking forward to him triumphing even more this time around," said Reading Chairman Sir John Madejski.

"I know the manager was very keen to have Nicky back, that makes a huge difference and so good luck to him once again."
