James Shields pitched into the ninth inning as the Tampa Bay Rays took a 4-1 win over the Minnesota Twins in the second of a three-game set.

Shields (3-0) gave up just one run on five hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. B.J. Upton hit a two-run single while Evan Longoria also drove in a run in the win for the Rays, who have won three of their last four.

Carl Pavano (1-2) gave up three runs -- two earned -- on seven hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in six innings of work for the Twins, who have lost six of nine. Ryan Doumit drove in the lone run of the game for Minnesota.
