New Orleans, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Former NFL safety Darren Sharper, who faces a string of sexual assault allegations across the country, has been indicted in New Orleans on charges of aggravated rape.
Sharper was indicted over accusations that he sexually assaulted three women in two separate incidents last year, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reported Friday.
Two other men, both acquaintances of Sharper and one of them a sheriff's deputy, were also charged as part of the nine-count grand jury indictment.
All three face life sentences stemming from multiple rape allegations against them, according to the paper.
Sharper, 39, is jailed and currently awaiting trial in California after pleading not guilty earlier this year to felony charges that he drugged and raped two women he met in a West Hollywood nightclub.
In another case, he was indicted by an Arizona grand jury in March on charges he drugged and sexually assaulted two women and drugged a third.
Sharper made five Pro Bowl teams in a 14-year NFL career between 1997 and 2010 and was selected to the NFL's All-Decade Team for the 2000s. He won a Super Bowl with the New Orleans Saints after the 2009 season and also played for the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings.
He was fired in February from his job as an analyst for NFL Network.
