Sevilla sacked manager Michel on Monday just one day after his team sustained a 2-0 defeat to Valencia, and has announced that he will be replaced by former Valencia boss Unai Emery.

Michel took over last February for Marcelino and helped Sevilla to a ninth- place finish in La Liga.

However, things have not gone well for the club this term as Sevilla has won only six of its first 19 matches and sits six points above the drop zone.

Emery spent four seasons in charge of Valencia before moving on to Spartak Moscow, where he was relieved of his duties in November.

The 41-year-old Emery has agreed to a contract with Sevilla that runs until 2014.
