New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Seattle Mariners outfielder Nelson Cruz was named the American League Player of the Week on Monday.

Cruz continued his early-season tear by finishing last week with a .500 average (12-for-24), six home runs, 10 RBI and seven runs scored over six appearances.

He began the week by crushing a pair of homers in a 6-5 loss to the Dodgers on Monday, then ended his run Sunday with a 3-for-6 performance which included two more longballs and five RBI.

This was his fourth career weekly honor and first since last Sept. 7 while playing for the Baltimore Orioles.

Others considered for the award were Orioles outfielder Adam Jones and Yankees reliever Andrew Miller.
