Bayern Munich star Bastian Schweinsteiger returned to training Thursday, three weeks after tearing a ligament in his right ankle in a Pokal Cup victory at Stuttgart.

Schweinsteiger spent a week in a cast following the injury, and two more weeks of rehabilitation were required before he could return to training. He jogged at the practice facility and will increase his activities in the coming days.

The 27-year-old German international midfielder was sidelined for two months earlier this season with a broken collarbone.

Schweinsteiger will miss Bayern's trip to Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday in the Bundesliga. He could return to face Hoffenheim in league play on March 10, or Basel on March 13 in the second leg of their last 16 Champions League series.

Basel defeated Bayern, 1-0, in the first leg in Switzerland.
