Schaub will start Sunday against Rams

Houston, TX ( - Houston Texans coach Gary Kubiak said Wednesday that quarterback Matt Schaub will start Sunday against the Rams.

Kubiak had a tough decision to make due to Schaub's recent struggles. Schaub completed just 19-of-35 passes for 173 yards and three interceptions during last Sunday's 34-3 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

He was intercepted twice by the 49ers' Tramaine Brock, including one returned for a touchdown. It marked the fourth consecutive game in which Schaub threw a pick-six.

Backup T.J. Yates played the fourth quarter against the 49ers. During a Monday press conference, Kubiak said he would go through an "evaluation stage" about the team, including the quarterback position.

"It was a tough decision," Kubiak said on the team's website. "Real tough. But I feel like it was the best thing for our football team this weekend."

Schaub has thrown for 1,366 yards with eight touchdowns and nine interceptions in five games this season. The Virginia product has a quarterback rating of 76.9.

Late Tuesday night, reports surfaced of an incident at the home of Schaub involving a fan.

NFL vice president of security Jeff Miller confirmed Wednesday to that the league is aware of the incident.

"This is a little unusual in that we don't normally have fans acting in this way, going to a player's residence, that sort of thing," Miller said to "In this case, Monday afternoon a vehicle pulled into his driveway and an unidentified individual yelled obscenities. The police department is involved. We've been in contact with them, as we normally would for anything like this. And because it is a team issue, they have a security director. We work with them.

"In this case, they'll be working closely with the police department. But it's going to be investigated and handled seriously by the Houston Police Department."
