Sacramento, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Sacramento State removed the interim tag from Jody Sears and named him its head football coach with a three-year contract extension, the Big Sky Conference university announced Wednesday.

The agreement will make Sears the head coach through the 2017 season.

"I am pleased with the way the 2014 season transpired and the way the football team, and its head coach, performed and represented the university," Sacramento State president Alexander Gonzalez said. "The football program connects the institution to the Sacramento community and the alumni. The feedback from this season has been both positive and supportive of Coach Sears and the direction in which the program is headed."

Sacramento State had a 7-5 overall record and a 4-4 Big Sky mark this season. By winning their final three games, the Hornets matched their highest win total since moving to Division I in 1993.
