Johnny Russell netted a pair of goals on Sunday for Dundee United before being sent off, helping his side to a comfortable 3-0 win over Dundee at Tannadice Park.

United took control from the start and went in front after 14 minutes courtesy of Gavin Gunning's header, while Russell tallied twice in the span of three minutes prior to halftime before receiving his marching orders after the break.

The first of Russell's two goals arrived in the 35th minute on a deflected effort before he doubled his total a few minutes later with a well-struck shot from 25 yards.

Russell's match ended a bit early in the 72nd minute when he clashed with Dundee captain Stephen O'Donnell, earning both men red cards.

But the win moves United to the top of the league with two wins from two games, while Dundee owns one point from three matches and has yet to score in its return to the top flight.
