Madrid, Spain – Cristiano Ronaldo led the way with two goals as Real Madrid downed Getafe, 4-1, on Sunday at the Bernabeu.
The match was supposed to mark the home debut of record signing Gareth Bale for Madrid, but he suffered a thigh injury in warm-ups and was replaced in the lineup by Isco.
Madrid went behind in the opening five minutes to a goal from Lafita, whose shot took a wicked deflection off of Madrid defender Pepe on its way past goalkeeper Diego Lopez.
But the home side bounced back in the 19th minute to equalize with Pepe scoring on the rebound from Ronaldo's close-range shot.
A free kick from Ronaldo struck the arm of Getafe's Michel inside the penalty area, allowing the Portugal international to step up and fire his side into the lead from the penalty spot before halftime.
Isco made the most of his start by scoring Madrid's third goal as he cut into the penalty area from the left and curled a shot inside the far post.
Getafe was reduced to 10 men in the 85th when Michel collected a red card for a professional foul, while Ronaldo capped the scoring in stoppage time with a clever flick.
Madrid remains within two points of leaders Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, while Getafe lost for the third time in five matches.
Valencia 3, Sevilla 1
Valencia, Spain - Sevilla remains rooted to the bottom of La Liga after a 3-1 defeat at Valencia on Sunday, leaving the team with two points from five matches.
Los Che hadn't started much better with just one win from four games, but a pair of goals from Jonas and another from Victor Ruiz moved the team into the top half of the league.
A goal from Jonas in the 32nd minute got the scoring started, but Kevin Gameiro equalized in the 52nd when he finished off a flicked header from Stephane Mbia.
Jonas restored the lead for the home side 17 minutes from time with a long- range effort that found the bottom corner of the net, while Ruiz headed home Ever Banega's free kick in the 82nd to wrap up the win.
Real Betis 0, Granada 0
Sevilla, Spain - Real Betis and Granada played out a 0-0 draw in Seville on Sunday in a battle of mid-table sides.
Betis generated plenty of chances, but Granada goalkeeper Roberto Fernandez came to the rescue to keep his side level, including three saves on Betis forward Salva Sevilla in the second half.
Granada did little to threaten the Betis goal, although Youssef El Arabi wasted a great chance for the visitors when he failed to hit the target from close range after Betis goalkeeper Guillermo Sara misjudged a cross.
Celta Vigo 0, Villarreal 0
Vigo, Spain - Villarreal is still unbeaten in its return to La Liga after earning a 0-0 draw at Celta Vigo on Sunday.
The visitors were the more threatening side, especially in the second half, but they were unable to beat Celta goalkeeper Yoel Rodriguez, who made three important saves in the final 10 minutes to preserve a point for his team.
Javier Aquino was the first to test Yoel in the last 10 minutes as his close- range effort was kept out, while the netminder also did well to stop substitute Tomas Pina's shot.
The final chance for Villarreal came from the foot of Hernan Perez, but Yoel once again was up to the task.
