Revs hope to continue winning ways against Crew

Foxborough, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - The New England Revolution and Columbus Crew SC will renew acquaintances at Gillette Stadium on Saturday with the Revs eyeing a third straight victory.

New England began the season without scoring a goal in the first three games, but has rebounded to win back-to-back matches with two goals in each game.

The Revs eliminated the Crew in the Eastern Conference semifinals last season, and Jay Heaps is hopeful that his side can continue its good run of form after a 2-0 win at Colorado last time out.

Kelyn Rowe scored two goals in the New England's previous win and he set up the opener against the Rapids in the 18th minute as Juan Agudelo finished off the move.

Lee Nguyen then found the net for the first time this season in the 54th minute as he converted a penalty kick after Charlie Davies was brought down by Colorado's Jared Watts inside the penalty area.

The Revs were able to see out the rest of the match to claim another three points, and Heaps was pleased with the overall effort of his side.

"I thought we did a really good job, and countered well. They were coming with a lot of numbers. I thought they did a good job to push the game," said Heaps. "It's a tough place to play, so our guys were running out of speed a little bit. I was happy with the way we finished it."

Columbus has only one win from four games, but the club is coming off a good outing in a 2-2 draw at Vancouver Whitecaps FC, who own the league's best record.

The Crew took the lead through Kei Kamara in the 24th minute but watched Octavio Rivero answer back for Vancouver in the 31st. Kamara then notched his second goal five minutes after halftime, but once again the Whitecaps had a response as Darren Mattocks equalized in the 64th.

"When the game is over and the whistle has blown and it's 2-2, we can accept that," Crew head coach Gregg Berhalter said. "Other than that, we're disappointed that we led twice and conceded. The expectation, especially after taking the lead twice, is to win the game. But after the game is over you look back, and we can live with the point."

Berhalter will be disappointed with the fact that his side allowed two goals for the second consecutive match, but the boss will be encouraged by the performance of Kamara, who scored two goals in an MLS game for the first time since Aug. 10, 2013 for Sporting Kansas City.

"He's a very good player and he got some good chances and finished them," Berhalter said of Kamara. "When we can get him in positions like that, we know he's going to score. Overall we're pleased with his performance. I think he showed a lot."
