New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Former NBA star Anthony Mason died early Saturday morning, according to the New York Daily News. He was 48.

Mason had suffered a massive heart attack earlier in the month.

The power forward known for his bruising style of play appeared in 882 games over 13 NBA seasons with New Jersey, Denver, New York, Charlotte, Miami and Milwaukee, averaging 10.9 points, 8.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists.

Mason was the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year in 1995 with the Knicks and an All- Star in 2001 with the Heat.
