Gary Redus scored a career-high 32 points and Augustine Rubit had his 10th double-double as South Alabama survived a late Troy rally to win 83-78 on Thursday night.

Rubit had 12 points and tied his career high with 18 rebounds for the Jaguars (9-10, 3-5 Sun Belt Conference), who led by 14 in the second half.

The Trojans (4-16, 2-6) got within two points, at 73-71, with 2:03 to go, then closed to 75-74 on a Regis Huddleston 3-pointer with 1:02 remaining. Rubit answered with a three-point play and South Alabama rebuilt a six-point lead.

Huddleston had a chance to tie, but his 3-pointer was short with 5 seconds left. Rubit's two free throws sealed the win.

Allyn Cooks had 19 points for the Jaguars.

Huddleston scored 17 points and Will Weathers had 17 points and 11 assists for Troy, which has lost three straight. Bernard Toombs added 14 points and 12 rebounds.
