The Boston Red Sox signed first-round draft picks Matt Barnes and Blake Swihart on Monday night.

Barnes, the 19th overall selection, compiled an 11-5 record with a 1.93 ERA and 117 strikeouts in 17 starts as a junior for the University of Connecticut this year. The right-hander walked just 26 batters in 105 innings and limited opponents to a .163 batting average.

Swihart, the 26th overall selection, hit .602 with 17 doubles, five triples, five home runs, 41 RBI, 58 runs scored and 24 walks in 28 games this year as a senior at V. Sue Cleveland High School in Rio Rancho, NM. He was listed as the No. 1 catcher in this year's draft by Baseball America.
