St. Petersburg, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Tampa Bay Rays have activated pitcher Drew Smyly and first baseman James Loney from the 15-day disabled list.

Smyly is scheduled to make his season debut on Friday as the Rays begin a three-game set with the visiting Toronto Blue Jays. He will be the first lefty starter used by Tampa Bay this year.

Acquired from Detroit as part of the three-team trade that sent David Price to the Tigers last July, Smyly began the season on the DL because of shoulder tendinitis.

Loney suffered a mild right oblique strain during batting practice prior to the second game of the season.

Outfielder Mikie Mahtook and first baseman Allan Dykstra were optioned to Triple-A Durham to make room on the roster for Smyly and Loney.
