Surprise, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Texas Rangers catcher Geovany Soto is expected to be sidelined for three weeks after having arthroscopic surgery performed on his left ankle Saturday.
The procedure, which took place in Plano, Texas, involved the removal of the os trigonum bone, according to the Rangers' official site. The bone had been placing pressure on Soto's flexor tendon and causing pain in the ankle.
Barring any setbacks, the Rangers believe Soto will be ready for the start of the regular season.
Texas re-signed Soto, who hit .245 with nine home runs and 22 RBI in a backup role with the team last season, to a one-year contract in November. The 31- year-old is slated to share time with offseason pickup J.P. Arencibia behind the plate in 2014.
