NEW YORK – The New York Rangers' playoff drive took a major hit with the loss of Ryan Callahan, who is out indefinitely because of a broken right leg.
One day after their most thrilling win of the season, the Rangers said Tuesday that Callahan will be sidelined by the injury that occurred with 1:45 left in New York's 5-3 comeback victory over Boston. He got hurt while blocking a shot by 6-foot-9 defenseman Zdeno Chara.
Callahan is the Rangers' second-leading scorer with 48 points despite playing in only 60 games.
He is fifth in the NHL among forwards with 77 blocks, and the Rangers are second in the league with 672.
Callahan missed 19 games this season because of a broken hand sustained while blocking a shot by Pittsburgh defenseman Kris Letang on Dec. 15.
Callahan has established career highs with 23 goals and 25 assists, including making the pass to Brandon Dubinsky for the goal that got the Rangers even at 3 with 3:48 remaining on Monday.
