Arlington, TX SportsNetwork.com) - Texas Rangers first baseman/designated hitter Mitch Moreland was placed on the 15-day disabled list after undergoing elbow surgery on Wednesday.
The procedure, which involved the removal of bone chips from Moreland's left elbow, is expected to sideline him from 2-to-3 weeks.
Moreland was limited to just 52 games last season due to a serious ankle injury which required surgery, but had gotten his 2015 campaign off to a good start. The sixth-year major leaguer was hitting .304 with one home run and nine RBI in 16 games this season.
First baseman/outfielder Kyle Blanks had his contract selected from Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding move and will be in the lineup for the Rangers' game against Seattle on Wednesday.
Blanks was hitting .327 with three homers and 11 RBI in 16 games at Round Rock at the time of his callup. The 28-year-old is a .234 hitter with 30 homers in 260 major league games with San Diego and Oakland.
