The Los Angeles Rams have released Stedman Bailey, the receiver who was shot twice in the head while sitting in a car last November in Miami Gardens, Fla., but there is a bright side to this story.

Bailey, who was back on the field running routes in April, reportedly will return to the team in a non-playing role if he clears waivers.

Bailey, 25, was a 2013 third-round pick and had 59 receptions for 843 yards in two-plus seasons when another car approached his and someone in that car allegedly opened fire on Bailey and four fellow passengers. Bailey and the driver of the car were hit, and Bailey had to be placed in a medically induced coma to keep the swelling in his brain down before he endured a life-saving six-hour surgery.
