Philadelphia, PA – In the loser's bracket of the Raleigh Regional the Ole Miss Rebels were able to pull out an 8-4 victory over the Binghamton Bearcats to stay alive in the 2013 NCAA Tournament.
Ole Miss (38-23) had lost to William & Mary in the first game of the double- elimination regional on Friday but thanks to a 4-for-5 effort from Austin Anderson held off elimination. Anderson was one of five players for the Rebels to record a multi-hit game. Bobby Wahl went seven innings and allowed just two runs to earn the victory.
Zach Blanden went 4-for-5 with a double and a run scored for Binghamton (30-25) but Jake Lambert allowed four runs on nine hits in 6 1/3 innings of work to take the loss that eliminated the Bearcats from the tournament.
Grant Clyde's RBI single in the sixth inning proved to be the difference as the NC State Wolfpack managed to earn a 1-0 victory over the William & Mary Tribe in the winner's bracket of the regional.
Clyde stepped into the batters box with two outs and runners on first and third after Tarran Senay was intentionally walked. Clyde managed to bang a single up the middle to bring in the run which turned out to be the game-winner for NC State (46-14). Carlos Rodon went the distance for the Wolfpack allowing just two hits in a complete game shutout in which he struck out 10 batters.
The Tribe (38-23) wasted a strong effort from starter John Farrell, who pitched 7 1/3 innings and allowed just a single run, in the loss. William & Mary will now need to replicate their 4-2 win from Friday against Ole Miss when the two teams meet in an elimination game Sunday afternoon. The winner will then take on NC State in the regional final later in the day.
