Montbeliard, France (SportsNetwork.com) - PSG failed to wrap up its second straight Ligue 1 title on Sunday as the club was held to a 1-1 at relegation- battling Sochaux.

Edinson Cavani's goal midway through the first half had PSG on course to secure the title, but an own goal from Thiago Silva in the 56th minute handed the hosts a valuable point in their bid to avoid relegation.

The result leaves PSG eight points clear of second-place Monaco with three games to play, and the capital club will next have an opportunity to win Ligue 1 when it faces Rennes on May 7.

Sochaux is four points from safety with three matches to play but Sunday's result should give them a boost ahead of the final stretch.

Lucas Moura nearly gave PSG the lead with a header that was cleared off the goal line by a Sochaux defender, but Cavani found the net a few minutes later after he took a well-weighted ball from Thiago Motta off his chest and volleyed it past goalkeeper Yohann Pele.

Sochaux managed to generate a chance at the end of the first half and found itself on level terms in the 56th minute with a bit of good fortune.

Florian Marange's driven cross struck PSG's Alex and was redirected on goal, where goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu saved the ball on his goal line but pushed it straight into Silva, who deflected it into his own net.

PSG had chances to win the game over the final 30 minutes, but Pele kept his side level with a fine double save on Cavani while also keeping out an effort from Marco Verratti.

Lille moved closer to securing third place with a 2-1 win over Bordeaux as Salomon Kalou and Ryan Mendes scored for Lille, which holds a seven-point lead on fourth-place St Etienne with three games to play.

Lyon handled Bastia, 4-1, in Sunday's other match to pull to within two points of St Etienne.
