PSG aims to stay hot against Nantes

Nantes, France (SportsNetwork.com) - Paris Saint-Germain will aim for its third consecutive victory in league play on Sunday when the capital club travels to the Stade de la Beaujoire to face Nantes.

It hasn't always been smooth sailing for PSG this season, as the two-time defending league champions have suffered in consistent form and underachieving for large portions of the season, but Laurent Blanc's seems to be coming together at the right time.

After falling in the Champions League quarterfinals to Barcelona, PSG has rebounded in league play with wins over Lille and Metz by a combined score of 9-2.

On Tuesday, PSG rolled over struggling Metz thanks to goals from Marco Verratti, Edinson Cavani and Gregory van der Wiel.

The hosts grabbed the first goal of the day after 25 minutes through Verratti and Cavani doubled the lead three minutes prior to the intermission.

The visitors pulled one back in the 53rd minute through a goal from Modibo Maiga, but the capital club added to its lead again in the 77th minute through Van der Wiel.

"It was a nice match of football, very open, with some beautiful goals. I think the supporters had a good night," said Blanc. "I'm happy, even if the most important thing was to win, I congratulate both sets of players for the entertainment. For our part, the mission was accomplished with the three points. Now we have to prepare for a very difficult match on Sunday against Nantes."

"We struggled a little early before gaining control. We scored great goals and I think it was a pretty complete match on our part," said midfielder Adrien Rabiot. "It bodes well for the remaining matches in the championship. If we continue like this, we hope to have a great finish to the campaign."

Also in Ligue 1 on Sunday, Lille battles Lens and third-place Monaco welcomes Toulouse to the Stade Louis II.

On Saturday, Lyon battles Evian, Bastia hosts Saint Etienne and Guingamp battles Reims. Also, Lorient hosts Bordeaux, Montpellier tangles with Rennes and Nice faces Caen.

Friday's action saw Andre-Pierre Gignac scored on either side of the intermisson to lead Marseille to a 2-0 win over Metz.
